My Favourite Movie Moment

The subject of Fate or ‘Nature’ as i would like to call it in today’s article, can be a hard one to crack. Some people are seemingly born with the proverbial silver spoon, others their story is that of abject lack and suffering. Could God be unfair? why not give all of us a level playing field? Why do others seemingly have a starting advantage? It’s a generational question that many have pondered without answers.

Not all of us come from the gravy, opulent and moneyed backgrounds. some are born wanting, seemingly deprived. Some have more weightier challenges than just poor upbringing; born with physical disabilities, born with life threatening illnesses or even fatal diseases like leukemia. It’s not uncommon nowadays to see Young men diagnosed of ‘old people’s diseases’ like dementia, or even children born diabetic!

Just like Paul said in one of his writing to the church of Corinth, “For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.” (2 Corinthians 1:8-9). This is the story of many out there. But there’s hope. the story does not end there. Victory is sure to those who will choose to ‘rise above nature!’

In the movie, The African Queen’ there’s a drunkard character who wakes up one day to find that a missionary lady has tossed his alcohol overboard. He scolds her for this and demands to be left alone.“it’s my nature to be drunk,” he tells her. “Nature, my friend, is precisely what we were created to rise above,” she responded. This is absolutely true and one of my most favourite moment in the cinema world. Rise above nature!

So what’s your nature? I challenge you today to gain mastery over your nature. Refuse to be limited by your background, environment or physical limitations that you may have. It’s not so much how we were born that matters, but rather how we end up. Those who rely in fate or nature, always end up despaired. Que Será, Será (Whatever will be, will be), is one of the worst sayings i’ve ever heard in my life! we don’t let things happen to us, we make things happen! otherwise our lives will be full of weeds!

Cristiano Ronaldo, the renown elite sportsman, the world’s highest-paid athlete and the only current billionaire footballer of the 21st century, recently mentioned in one of his social media posts that, “Success in life is not measured by what you accomplish, but rather by the amount of obstacles you overcome!” How profound this is! The finish line maybe the same, but neither the starting line nor the hurdles in between are! There’s just something sweeter about a hard fought victory, it hits differently!

I love genuine stories of rags to riches. If i find one person who has overcome his nature, they immediately become my case study! One thing that has stood out from the several case studies i have conducted is that, in order to rise above nature you have to engage a force that is stronger than nature. Trust in God, he is the creator of nature itself! If God can raise the dead, surely he can change your circumstances. Even Jesus was born in a manger, but now He’s seated on the throne of Glory! Therefore do not despair, keep your hope alive for with God, “though your beginning was small, your latter days will be very great. “(Job 8:7)

So therefore Fight!!! don’t sit down and complain, Fight! wake up, do something about your situation, fight! crawl if you can’t walk, walk if you can’t run, run if you can’t fly, by all means keep moving! the bible encourages us to Fight the good fight of faith! Keep your faith alive. use it to resist that situation, fight it with all you got, and with all God’s got. The more the hurdles, the more the grace to overcome. in the end with our clenched fists we shall say like the great apostle Paul: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith: in other words, ‘I indeed overcame my nature!(2 Tim 4-7-8)
