Your debt controls every minute of your day, from the moment your alarm beats and bounces around your skull first thing in the morning till when you lay down your head back again.

Debt is slavery! It controls what you wear, where you work and what you eat for lunch. It never leaves you. It controls what you do in weekends, and where you go on holidays.

Debt colours your view of the WORLD. It colours your view of YOU and what you are capable of, your hopes, your dreams. It eats away at your self esteem.

The general rule of the thumb is always this: ‘The Lender is always Subject (read Servant) to the Borrower!’ PROV 22:7.

Slavery in Modern times is carried out not with whips and chains but with credit card debts, bank fees, hidden charges, penalties and compounding interests. The bottom line is this: with these loans you are not in control of your financial future. You are not free! You are a slave!

The sad reality is most people genuinely get into unnecessary debts thinking they can handle it, only to end up slaves of the system. The saddest reality is, like Dave Ramsey rightly said, “most people buy things they don’t need, with money they don’t have, to impress people who don’t even care!”

My advice especially to a young man/woman who is just starting out, avoid any form of loans, these ‘buy nows pay later’ deals are one of the biggest enemies to your financial freedom. if you can’t afford it, then you probably don’t need it!

It is better to deny yourself the pleasures of the moment, gradually work your way up towards true financial freedom. Study and be intentional about your finances. Make hard choices, in the end they will pay off. Ecclesiastes 11:6 “Sow your seed in the morning and do not be idle with your hands in the evening, for you do not know whether morning or evening planting will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both alike will be good!”

My heart goes out to all who are languishing in debts. You got this! You will come out on the other side, you will be free! Do not despair, Do not lose hope! Do not wait until all else has failed before you begin to trust God with your finances. Do it now! Know and understand for sure that He is your source. 1 Samuel 2:8 “He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; on them he has set the world!” what a verse of scripture!
